When people think of organizing their living space, their first immediate thought is their house. But what about your car? After all, cars are usually the primary mode of transportation for most, and keeping them clean while also making sure auto repairs are up to date is essential. Instead of waiting several months until driving your car is absolutely unbearable, try buying these items instead and continually keeping the space tidy:
1. Get Out the Trash Bags
We’ve all bought fast food on the way home, or crumpled up a wrapper and thrown it the floor. Despite promises that we’ll deal with it when we get home, we never do. Instead, keep a trash bag in your car to empty excess bags and wrappers into without using the floor or console.
2. Try Zipper Pouches on the Back Seats
For drivers who are frequently hauling around kids, they know how much of a struggle it can be to keep kids entertained. Most of the time, the end of a journey leaves your car looking like a disorganized toy box. By using zipper pouches that go on the back seat, toys and any other devices that were used to entertain, can just slip in the pouch for the next trip on the road.
3. A Glove box Folder
Since you never know if you’re going to be in an accident that requires auto repair or get pulled over by an officer, keeping a glove box folder to store important information regarding the car–such as an insurance card or vehicle registration–is definitely a good idea.
4. Get a Console Organizer
A lot of times, consoles can become jumbles of loose change, makeup and whatever else you happen to throw in at a moment’s notice. By getting a console organizer–and by that, we mean just a small box–these items can stay more organized and less jumbled together.
5. Need a Receipt Envelope?
For those who are using company cars or need to log their miles for work, keeping a receipt envelope is essential. That way, receipts won’t get lost in the mess or accidentally thrown away, and you can get reimbursed for whatever you need to with no fuss.
6. Let’s Not Forget a Trunk Organizer
The trunk of the car is utilized a lot for storage, but it can become useless if its too messy. A trunk organizer such as a few different boxes or sectioned off areas can keep everything straight and make sure all available space is being used as well.
7. The Errand Bag
There’s usually a list of items everyone needs when they get in the car to run errands–a grocery list, a planner, that extra pair of sunglasses. By keeping an errand bag, every time you get in the car, you can place these necessary items in it. Not only does this keep the space tidy, but it also insures you won’t forget anything in a mad rush, either.
8. Don’t Forget Your Emergency Road Kit
Just like you’re never sure you’re going to get into an accident or pulled over, you’re never sure when an emergency might happen. What happens if your child scrapes their knee and starts bleeding heavily? What if the car won’t start? These can be big problems, but by keeping an emergency road kit full of first aid, jumper cables and whatever else you might need, these emergencies don’t have to be so stressful.
Although those eight things pretty much cover what you need to keep in your car in order to keep it clean, it’s never a bad idea to have hand soap, an extra phone charger or a non-perishable snack on hand, either. Although a car might not be a house, keeping this area clean and efficient can make life a whole lot easier.
